Still Old School

Montana Tavern

Lewistown, Montana

Most bars have a jukebox. This one has a creek.

The Story

Lewistown tavern in the 1911 Mackey Building on Main Street, with Spring Creek running right underneath and an opening in the floor to prove it.

The Montana Tavern is on West Main in Lewistown, inside the Mackey Building, a 1911 downtown block. The tavern business got its start in 1977, and it’s locally owned by the Lamphier family.

Here’s the Lewistown part: there’s an opening in the floor with a view down to Spring Creek, which runs under downtown. People still bring it up when they talk about the block. Most bars have a jukebox. This one has a creek.

It’s a working Main Street bar in a town that still has one. Stop in for last call and look down before you leave.

Why It's Still Old School

A Main Street tavern over Spring Creek, in a 1911 building. Look down and you can see the water. Not many bars come with a creek.
