Still Old School
Judith Cinema
Two big remodels in a century. Nobody can accuse it of rushing.
The Story
The Judith Theatre opened on Lewistown's Main Street on New Year's Eve 1914. It still shows movies, now as the two-screen Judith Cinema.
The Judith Theatre opened on December 31, 1914, with a live show called The Dancer and the King, plus a travelogue and a comedy. The first feature film, Les Miserables, played the next day. Heavy pick for New Year’s Day. It has been in use on Main Street ever since.
The front is Beaux-Arts, tan stone and red brick, with the theater’s name inscribed under the cornice. A remodel in 2006 and 2007 split it into a twin and renamed it Judith Cinemas. That was the first big remodel since 1948. Nobody can accuse it of rushing.
Polson Theatres runs it now as Judith Cinema. Check the showtimes and go sit in a room that has been doing this for more than a century.
Why It's Still Old School
In use since 1914, with the name carved under the cornice and a plain, 1960s-looking marquee out front. It does not remodel on a whim.
