Still Old School

Beer Jug

Glendive, Montana

A fire in 2018. The brat came back anyway.

The Story

Glendive bar and restaurant on Merrill Avenue since the mid-1940s, known for a Swiss brat travelers order on purpose.

The Beer Jug sits on North Merrill in Glendive and has been a bar and restaurant since the mid-1940s. George Scherger was an early owner from those years. By 2015 it had roughly 70 years behind it.

The Swiss brat is the thing. Travelers ordered it on purpose, which on an eastern Montana drive is saying something. Out there you don’t stop for any old sandwich.

Fire gutted the building in March 2018. The Beer Jug came back and is still open. It takes more than a fire.

Passing through Glendive? Order the brat, then tell us whether it tastes like it did before the fire.

Why It's Still Old School

The Merrill Avenue bar Glendive has leaned on since the mid-1940s. Swiss brat, lunch plates, and a comeback after the 2018 fire.
