Historic Miles City Saddlery

Miles City · Custer County · Since 1909

The phone still rings about old chaps.

The Story

Western wear and tack on Main Street in Miles City since 1909, with a small saddle museum inside and local owners since 2024.

Old chaps stamped with the shop's name still turn up, and people still call asking where to get more. After 115 years, the store is still there to answer the phone.

In 1909 three local men, Clem Kathmann, Frank Jelinek and Bert Colman, bought out saddle maker Charlie Coggshell, and the Miles City Saddlery was in business. In the early days the shop turned out around 800 saddles a year. That is a lot of leather.

In January 2024 Marc and Vicki Leesburg, who also own Vintage and Rustic down the street, bought it. Marc said another buyer, one from outside the area, had wanted to turn it into something else. The Leesburgs kept the crew, put on a new roof, repainted, brightened up the lights and added “Historic” to the name. At 115 years, it had earned the word.

It still sells western wear and tack, and it keeps a museum of saddles and leather goods. People still call about old chaps stamped with the Miles City Saddlery name.

Got a pair of those chaps in the closet? Send us a photo. We’d love to see how they held up.

Still Here.
