Still Old School

Maverick Mountain

Polaris, Montana

The lift line is short. The drive is the line.

The Story

Small ski hill off the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway at Polaris, about 40 miles from Dillon. 24 runs, cross-country trails, and lift lines that stay short.

Maverick Mountain sits in the Beaverhead National Forest, just off the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway at Polaris, about 40 miles from Dillon. There are 24 runs and a cross-country trail network.

The hill opened December 20, 2025, for the 2026 season. The 2025 season before that ran late December through the end of March.

It’s a long drive for most people, and that’s a lot of the appeal. Short lift lines are what you get for the mileage.

Pack a lunch, fill the tank in Dillon, and make a day of it.

Why It's Still Old School

A Beaverhead County ski hill about 40 miles from Dillon. Far enough out that the lift lines stay short. That's the trade, and it's a good one.
