Red Lodge Mountain

Still Old School Montana Original

Community ski area above Red Lodge, opened as Grizzly Peak in 1960 and still running lifts each winter.

Local hill since 1960. Close enough to town that kids still learn here before they chase bigger mountains.

This place is still going.

Red Lodge Mountain opened as Grizzly Peak on January 2, 1960, and took the Red Lodge Mountain name in 1965, according to the resort’s history page and Red Lodge Ski Patrol histories. It remains a winter operation above town rather than a destination mega-resort.

Local TV covered the 2025-26 reopen in early December 2025 after a delayed start. The hill is seasonal and weather-dependent, which is the honest status for any Montana ski area.

When the lifts run, it is Still Old School skiing for Carbon County.
