M&M Bar and Cafe
Uptown Butte bar and cafe dating to 1890, reopened next door after the 2021 fire that took the original building.
Butte's all-hours bar-and-cafe habit, still on Main Street after a fire that would have finished a weaker place.
This place is still going.
The M&M started in 1890 as Martin and Mosby’s place, according to the National Register plaque text republished on the business site. For more than a century it served miners coming off shift, kept breakfast available at odd hours, and became the kind of Butte room people pointed to when they talked about a town that never fully slept. During Prohibition it officially became a cigar store while the back room kept working, the plaque says.
On May 7, 2021, fire destroyed the original building. Owner Selina Pankovich reopened next door in 2023. Montana Standard and NBC Montana coverage in 2025 described business as strong and noted the historic neon returning to Main Street. The address is now 17 North Main.
Continuity here includes a move of a few feet and a rebuilt room. The name, the neon, and the job (bar, cafe, gaming) stayed. If you are nearby, stop in and keep them busy.
