Bridger Bowl

Still Old School Montana Original

Nonprofit community ski area in Bridger Canyon, open to the public since January 16, 1955.

Local nonprofit hill since 1955. Affordable tickets, community board, and the blue light on the Baxter when it snows.

This place is still going.

Bridger Bowl’s own timeline lists January 16, 1955, as the day the ski area opened to the public with one employee. The Bozeman State Park Recreation Association had formed the year before. The name Bridger Bowl came later, in 1971. It remains a nonprofit mountain that reinvests revenue into the hill rather than paying outside owners.

Locals still watch for the blue light on downtown’s Baxter Hotel when recent snow hits the canyon. The mountain now runs multiple chairs and lodges, but the pitch is still community skiing rather than resort packaging.

Seasonal, obviously. When the lifts are spinning, it is one of the clearest Still Old School outdoors stops near Bozeman.
