The Miles City Saddlery dates to 1909, when local men Clem Kathmann, Frank Jelinek and Bert Colman bought out saddle maker Charlie Coggshell, according to the Miles City Star. The shop turned out around 800 saddles a year in its early days.
The Star reported in April 2024 that Marc and Vicki Leesburg, who also own Vintage and Rustic down the street, bought the business that January. Marc said another buyer from outside the area had wanted to turn it into something else. The Leesburgs kept the crew, put on a new roof, repainted, brightened the lights, and added “Historic” to the name.
The store still sells western wear and tack and keeps a museum of saddles and leather goods. The paper says people still call about old chaps stamped with the Miles City Saddlery name.
If you’re nearby, stop in and keep them busy.
