Beer Jug

Still Old School Montana Original

Glendive bar and restaurant on Merrill Avenue, a decades-old local stop known for Swiss brat and a rebuilt room after fire.

Merrill Avenue bar that Glendive kept after a gutting fire. Swiss brat, lunch plates, and an east-end habit.

This place is still going.

The Beer Jug sits on North Merrill in Glendive and shows up in Visit Montana as a long-running bar and restaurant. A 2015 Great Falls Tribune feature described roughly 70 years of operation and a Swiss brat that travelers ordered on purpose. George Scherger is named in that older coverage as an early owner from the mid-1940s era.

Fire gutted the building in March 2018. Later listings and reviews describe a rebuilt, expanded room still operating Monday through Saturday. Year established is left blank here because sources give a mid-1940s window rather than a single opening year.

If you are nearby, stop in and keep them busy.
