Montana Bar

Still Old School Montana Original

Miles City Main Street bar open since 1908, with original tile, tin ceilings, and a Montana-shaped neon sign.

Main Street since 1908. Tile floor, tin ceiling, steamboat-era bar, and a neon Montana that still lights up.

This place is still going.

The Montana Bar dates itself to 1908, when James Kenney moved his bar to 612 Main Street in Miles City. The bar’s history page points to details you can still see: Kenney’s name in tile at the entrance, an original Italian tile floor, embossed tin ceilings, a stand-up bar the page says arrived by steamboat in 1912, and a 1914 National Cash Register on the back bar.

The Montana-shaped neon outside is the landmark people use when they give directions downtown. Hours are listed daily, 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Eastern Montana bars come and go. This one kept the room. If you are nearby, stop in and keep them busy.
