Gordon and Francis Dellwo bought the Buckhorn in 1959, according to a 2019 Fairfield Sun Times story republished by the Great Falls Tribune. Their son Frank and his wife Tammy took it on, and their kids Beau and Shayna were working there by 2019. “If Augusta had a ‘town hall,’ it would be the Buckhorn,” the paper wrote.
Fire destroyed the bar in January 1974. The town held an auction and trapshoot at the rodeo grounds that March to help rebuild. In the 1960s, missile-site construction crews kept it busy, and Tammy Dellwo said “meet me at the hard hat area” was radio code for a beer at the Buckhorn. These days it is more restaurant than bar, with folks coming from Great Falls, Fairfield and Choteau.
A Summer Saturday BBQ was on the calendar at 120 Main for August 2026. If you’re nearby, stop in and keep them busy.
