Still Old School

Red Lodge Mountain

Red Lodge, Montana · Since 1960

Snow does what it wants. The hill goes along.

The Story

The ski hill above Red Lodge, opened as Grizzly Peak in 1960 and renamed in 1965. It runs lifts every winter the snow allows, and not a day before.

Red Lodge Mountain opened as Grizzly Peak on January 2, 1960, and took the Red Lodge Mountain name in 1965. It’s a winter operation above town, not a mega-resort, and it doesn’t act like one.

The 2025-26 season got going in early December 2025, after a delayed start. That’s the honest status for any Montana ski area: seasonal, and up to the weather. Snow does what it wants.

When the lifts run, Carbon County goes skiing.

Why It's Still Old School

The local hill since 1960, close enough to town that kids still learn here before they go chase bigger mountains.
