Still Old School
M&M Bar and Cafe
After 130-some years, it moved exactly as far as it had to.
The Story
Uptown Butte's bar and cafe since 1890. Fire took the original building in 2021, so the M&M moved next door, which in Butte terms is the same spot.
The M&M started in 1890 as Martin and Mosby’s place. For more than a century it fed miners coming off shift, kept breakfast going at hours that made no sense anywhere else, and became the room people meant when they talked about a Butte that never fully slept.
During Prohibition it was officially a cigar store. The back room kept working. Officially, cigars.
On May 7, 2021, fire destroyed the original building. Owner Selina Pankovich reopened next door in 2023, and by 2025 business was strong and the old neon was lit up on Main Street again.
So the M&M moved a few feet. For a place that goes back to 1890, that barely counts as a move. Bar, cafe, gaming, same as ever. Go have breakfast at an hour you’d normally be asleep, and tell us about the old room while you’re at it.

Why It's Still Old School
Butte's all-hours bar and cafe since 1890, through Prohibition and a 2021 fire. It moved next door on Main Street and brought the neon along.
