Still Old School

Mark's In & Out

Livingston, Montana · Since 1954

New owners in 1980 changed exactly one letter.

The Story

Seasonal Livingston drive-in on Park Street since 1954. Diamond N beef burgers, Wilcoxson's ice cream shakes, and picnic tables across the street.

Mark’s opened in June 1954. Founder Mart Phillips called it Mart’s In & Out. In 1980 Mark and Scott Black bought it, set about restoring it, and changed exactly one letter. Efficient.

The menu hasn’t wandered far: burgers dressed to order, fries, onion rings, tots, shakes and cones. The beef comes from Diamond N Meats. The ice cream is Wilcoxson’s, made in Livingston since 1914.

It runs on a baseball calendar, roughly April through October. May 2025 kicked off the 71st season, with the experienced crew training the new hires, which the owner said is how it has always worked. Mark’s has hired the children and grandchildren of people who worked there years ago. Some families just have a drive-in in them.

Get there before October shuts the window. Then take your shake across the street to the picnic tables.

Why It's Still Old School

Opened in June 1954 as Mart's. New owners in 1980 changed exactly one letter. It still opens every spring with the same burger-and-shake job.
