Still Old School
Haufbrau House
Nobody has sanded anything.
The Story
Campus-corner dive at South 8th and Main in Bozeman since 1961. Burgers, open mics early in the week, bands on weekends, and names carved into the tables.
The Haufbrau opened in 1961 at South 8th and Main, close enough to campus that generations of Montana State students have treated it as part of orientation.
It’s still the room people remember. Posters layered in the entry. Names carved into the tables. Open mic nights early in the week, louder bands on weekends. Nobody has sanded anything.
Other bars nearby closed. The Haufbrau is one of the last remaining parts of what locals called the Barmuda Triangle, and it’s still very much open for business.
It isn’t polished. That’s sort of the point. Go on an open mic night and see who’s brave enough to sign up.
Why It's Still Old School
The Montana State dive since 1961. Names carved in the tables, posters layered in the entry, and one of the last bars standing from the old Barmuda Triangle.
