Showdown Montana
Montana's oldest operating ski area on King's Hill, founded in 1936 and still turning lifts off US-89.
Oldest operating ski hill in Montana, still a Highway 89 day trip rather than a destination resort.
This place is still going.
Showdown began in 1936 as King’s Hill Ski Area under the Great Falls Ski Club, according to multiple Montana news histories. It later took the Showdown name and still operates off US Highway 89 near Neihart, about 67 miles from Great Falls per the mountain’s own directions page.
The 2025-26 season opened in December 2025 with the usual Wednesday-through-Sunday winter schedule. Lodges, a saloon, and a handful of chairs keep it in the day-trip category: park, ride, drive home.
It is seasonal by nature. When the hill is open, it is as Still Old School as Montana skiing gets.

Borrie's
Four generations on Smelter Avenue. Same sauce, hand-rolled ravioli, and a supper-club clock that still makes sense.
