Lost Trail straddles the Montana-Idaho line on Lost Trail Pass, up US 93 from Sula. Teton Gravity Research dates the ski area to 1938. Bill Grasser bought it with a partner in 1967 and took full ownership in 1973, adding a lodge, a dining area and the first chairlift. His children, Scott and Judy Grasser, run it now.
TGR found it running on generators, with no power lines, no Wi-Fi and not much cell service. The ski patrol is largely volunteers. The diehards were easy to spot: five or six old sticker tickets in different colors on their jackets.
The ski area lists five double chairs and three rope tows and opens Thursday through Sunday plus holidays. Roaming Montana reported RFID lift access arrived for the 2025-26 season, so the sticker collections may be done growing. If you’re nearby, stop in and keep them busy.
