Bitterroot Drug says it is Montana’s longest continuously operated pharmacy. According to its history page, it was established by copper baron Marcus Daly with M.M. Cone, described as the first licensed female pharmacist in Montana, as its first manager. Dr. Stephen McGrath took it over in 1900 and moved it to Main Street.

The owner list is short. Ben Ogg ran it until 1939, when Bob and Kay Hall bought it. Wayne and Helen Hedman took over in 1969. Pete and Jeni Seifert, both Montana natives, have run it since 2006 and are the fifth set of owners.

It is still a full pharmacy with compounding, free delivery inside Hamilton city limits, and a front store with candy, gifts and souvenirs. Open seven days a week. If you’re nearby, stop in and keep them busy.
