Still Old School
Buckhorn Bar
Burned in 1974. The town held a trapshoot about it.
The Story
Augusta's Main Street bar and restaurant, owned by the Dellwo family since 1959. It burned in 1974, the town helped rebuild it, and it's still where Augusta gathers.
Gordon and Francis Dellwo bought the Buckhorn in 1959. Their son Frank and his wife Tammy took it on, and by 2019 their kids, Beau and Shayna, were working there too. Put it this way: “If Augusta had a ‘town hall,’ it would be the Buckhorn.”
Fire destroyed the bar in January 1974. That March, the town held an auction and trapshoot at the rodeo grounds to help rebuild. Of course it was a trapshoot.
In the 1960s, missile-site construction crews kept the place busy, and Tammy Dellwo said “meet me at the hard hat area” was radio code for a beer at the Buckhorn. These days it’s more restaurant than bar, with folks coming in from Great Falls, Fairfield and Choteau.
There was a Summer Saturday BBQ on the calendar for August 2026. Make the drive. You’ll have company from three towns over.
Why It's Still Old School
If Augusta had a town hall, it would be the Buckhorn. Three generations of Dellwos have worked it since the family bought it in 1959.
