Started with a rope tow in 1974. Still priced for families and still called Disco.

Discovery opened in 1974 as Discovery Basin, with a few runs and a rope tow, according to a 2025 piece by a University of Montana student in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. Investors from Spokane and local skiers looking for something bigger than nearby Wraith Hill developed it. Peter Pitcher bought it at an SBA auction in June 1984 and added seven chairlifts over the next 25 years.

The front side is wide groomers. The backside is steep chutes and bowls. From the top you can see the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness and Georgetown Lake. Locals call it Disco, and the paper says lift tickets are kept modest on purpose.

If you’re nearby, stop in and keep them busy.
