Club Moderne was designed by Fred F. Willson and built by Frank Wullus in 1937 for John Francisco, according to the National Register record summarized on Wikipedia. The front was clad in Carrara glass. The inside was custom-built to match.

In 2016 it won a National Trust for Historic Preservation contest as America’s favorite historic bar. A few months later, on October 3, 2016, fire badly damaged the building. The owners rebuilt, kept the bar, a few original furnishings and some of the original facade, and reopened to the public on May 13, 2017.

It is still a neighborhood bar. In May 2026 the Montana Standard reported it was hosting a “Just for Fun” car show. Directory listings show it open noon to 2 a.m.
